Margaret Deffett (nee Harrington), age 89, passed away on Friday, April 25th, 2025.
Marg was a wonderful wife, mom, nana, aunt, neighbour and friend to so many. She married Murray James Deffett in 1957, and together, until Murray passed in 2009, they raised three happy and healthy kids: Donna, Mathew, and Randy, and cherished their grandchildren: Kyle, Stacie, Lily, and Owen. As her children married, Marg extended her embrace to daughters-in-law, Mae and Nathalie, and son-in-law Mike.
In her years living in Cabbage Town, the Beaches, Pickering, and her Pickering condominium, Marg made a positive impact on everyone she met. She had a large group of lifelong friends from her single days in 1950s Cabbage Town. During her 26 years working in the cafeteria at Eastern Commerce High School, generations of students affectionately called her "mom," and as a hockey mom and grandma, Marg was the loudest supporter in the arena.
After Murray passed, Marg remained fiercely independent, living in her condominium. Her spirit and occasional temper were a testament to her strong will, but her warmth and love always prevailed. Margaret was deeply devoted to her family, and while her absence is profoundly felt, we find comfort in knowing she is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Murray, siblings June Ross, Danny and Patrick Harrington, nephew Danny Down, parents Dennis and Norah Harrington, brother-in-law Al Ross, and many cherished friends.
What an Irish party they will have to welcome Margaret to Heaven!
Visitation: Friends will be received on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at the Accettone Funeral Home (384 Finley Ave., Ajax) from 6–9 pm, and again on Thursday, May 1st from 12 noon until the time of service in the chapel at 1 pm.
Donations: In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Society would be gratefully welcome.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Kim, who left us peacefully on April 4 after a brave battle with cancer, a battle she fought with a smile on her face and strength in her heart until the very end.
She was the cherished wife of Randy, her partner in life and love. A devoted mother to Mark, Colleen, Amanda, and Kelly, and a proud grandmother to Declan, Tyanne, Melanie, Alec, and Alycia. Her love stretched even further as she became a great-Nana to her sweet Santino. Wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend were all titles she wore with immense joy and pride.
Kim had a gift for making everyone feel special and included – whether it was through a kind message, hosting her family and extended family and friends at her favourite pot lucks, or a home that transformed into pure magic every Christmas. The holidays were her favorite time of year, and she poured her heart into every light, every decoration, every moment of togetherness. Her spirit will forever sparkle in the glow of twinkling lights & the sound of a favourite Christmas song.
She taught us how to find joy in the little things, how to show up for the people we love, and how to live with grace, even in the face of hardship. She was strong, gentle, fiercely loving and full of light.
We will carry her memory with us always — in the traditions she started, the stories she told, and the love she gave so freely.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Kim at the Accettone Funeral Home, 384 Finley Avenue, Ajax on Sunday, April 13, 2025. Viewing from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 3:00 p.m. As Kim would share and want, all are welcome to join us.
