Dan Skinner

1942 – April 28, 2025

After a long and full life, Dan Skinner passed away peacefully with his family by his side at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital on April 28, 2025, at the age of 83.

Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Joy Skinner (née Woodhouse); daughters Shelly Skinner (partner Pete Nowacki) and Joanna Milroy; and grandchildren Dustind and Maddison. He also leaves behind his brother Gordon (Cheryl), sister Marnie Phoenix, and their children.

Born and raised in Leaside, Ontario, son of the late Jack and Millie Skinner, Dan spent his formative summers on Georgian Bay where he discovered his lifelong love of boating. After graduating from Leaside High School, he earned a degree from York University and embarked on a career in sales management, eventually relocating between Ontario and Vancouver before returning to settle in Orillia.

Dan was a true entrepreneur. He revitalized several companies before founding Autosport Orillia, Dan Skinner Leasing, and Industrial Park Collision Inc. He actively supported local businesses and was a proud member of the Kiwanis Club of Orillia, earning honors such as the Skid Watson Award and Top 40 Under 40 CEO recognition.

He had a passion for all things motorized—from boats to cars and Harleys—and loved sitting on the back deck watching lake sunsets. Dan was also a gifted photographer, capturing cherished family memories over the years.

Dan will be remembered for his generous heart, sharp wit, impeccable style, and deep love for his family. A mentor and cheerleader to many, he held a special place for “the kids of Couchiching Point” who were like extended family to him.

The family offers heartfelt thanks to Shay and Kirsten in the emergency department, and to Dr. Italiano for years of dedicated care.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Donations may be made to the Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital or the Ontario SPCA Orillia via Simcoe Funeral Home, 38 James Street E., Orillia. Messages of condolence can be shared at www.simcoefuneralhome.ca.
